You’ll never again be this age

Dear darling,⠀

Tonight I want to rock you, ⠀

In my arms you’ll fall asleep, ⠀

Instead of self settle, ⠀

Even if you don’t need me.⠀

This push and pull of routine, ⠀

To make sure you sleep on time,

I feel I need to hold you,⠀

Because time is flying by.⠀

You’ll never again be this age,⠀

Or two or three or four, ⠀

So I need to hold you right now,

In this moment, a little more.⠀

You’ll only be this age,⠀

This age only once, ⠀

They said time would fly, ⠀

As I count your age in months.⠀

I’m excited for the future, ⠀

And each day is a blessing, ⠀

But these are the days, ⠀

The days, that I’ll be missing.⠀

Once this somewhat fog has cleared,

And you no longer need to be held,⠀

I know I’ll miss these days, ⠀

The days of you as my ‘baby’ girl...

.
