So this is motherhood hey?⠀

It’s true what they tell you ⠀

And everything they say. ⠀

⠀

The good, the bad,⠀

The sweet and the sour.⠀

And don’t get me started 

on that crazy witching hour.

⠀

It’s fine to go a bit crazy, ⠀

And lose your marbles too.⠀

In this new life where we obsess  

Over someone’s else’s poo.

⠀

Their spews and their sleep,⠀

The feeding and tears

And I’m told it all fades ⠀

In a few short years.⠀

⠀

But I know it’s all part of it,

I look forward to you.⠀

The waking, the feeding,⠀

Not so much the poo. ⠀

⠀

What about our bodies?⠀

My hips, my tummy, my thighs, ⠀

I should care more about it⠀

But no energy to exercise,⠀

⠀

Sleep for us, now that’s a doozy.

You take what you get,⠀

You certainly can’t be choosy.⠀

⠀

They told us to get sleep

Before baby comes along ⠀

But it’s you can’t bank it up⠀

Like a playlist of songs.⠀

⠀

How did you go?⠀

How was your birth?⠀

Here’s where you come to know 

You’re incredible self worth!⠀

⠀

Breastfeeding or bottle?⠀

Or maybe even mix?⠀

The thing I learnt with feeding,⠀

It ain’t one size that fits.⠀

⠀

One day it works,

Doesn’t work the other,

Quite similar I’m finding ⠀

In learning to mother.⠀

⠀

How does she go at night? ⠀

Does she sleep in the day? ⠀

Does she link her cycles? ⠀

Is she overstimulated in play? 

⠀

The alone time with your partner⠀

Is something you’ll miss.

I guess you don’t appreciate it ⠀

Until you go through this.

⠀

They said this would happen,

So amazing, in love, in shock⠀

If you didn’t have time before, ⠀

Now you’re on your baby’s clock. ⠀

⠀

⁣But Its all very normal,⠀

Just like this motherhood lingo. ⠀

It’s not a competition,⠀

There’s no ‘first to call bingo’.

⠀

So many questions, varying views, ⠀

Mama, take all the advice. ⠀

See what works for you.

⠀

They didn't say it would be easy,⠀

but so indescribably worth it!
